Haiti - Politic : Validation process of integration report of Disabled people

Recently, the Interministerial Committee on Human Rights (CIDP) met with Gérald Oriol, Jr., Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities, around the process of validation of initial report of Haiti to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) of the UN.

Prepared under the direction of the Office of the Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (BSEIPH), this report reflects the progress made by Haiti, about the improvement of services offered to people with special needs. The measures taken by the Haitian government within the field of integration of disabled people, are highligted in this report, prepared in consultation with various national and international organizations working to promote the rights of persons with disabilities.

The CIDP participates in this process that must lead to the final production and validation of this report by all stakeholders, which will be submitted to the UNCRDP in the coming weeks.

Recall that in 2009, Haiti ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities but since no report was presented to the CRPD because of the tragedy of 12 January 2010. Note that the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that Haiti counts today more than one million people with special needs.
