Haiti - Education : UEH Launches a project of  Renewable Energy Education Network

Wednesday, the Executive Council of the State University of Haiti (UEH) officially launched in Port-au-Prince, the Renewable Energy Education Network (RENET), in the presence of numerous personalities including among others : Jean Jumeau, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Energy Security, Senator Maxime Roumer and the Spanish Ambassador in Haiti, Manuel Hernandez Ruigomez.

Dr. Berg P. Yacinthe, Project Coordinator for UEH, stated that this program is funded by the European Development Fund to the tune of 900,000 euros over 3 years, explaining "that the project RENET aims in particular to strengthen the capacity of country in the field of renewable energy, building relationships with partners working in the field of technical and vocational training and renewable energy, to develop a graduate program and a program of short cycle or of technical training on renewable energy."

Note that this education project on renewable energy target not only higher education, but also the secondary education, local and international organizations, government agencies, public institutions, state employees, the Civil society, etc...

If the Carlos III University of Madrid is the main partner of the UEH in this project, the universities Oriente" and "Holguin" of Cuba will also be closely involved in this program.

Jean Vernet Henry, Rector of the UEH said he expected to have a positive impact in the field of renewable energy, both for the population and the State University in particular. He stressed that UEH, was not to its first attempt in this area, noting that several entities of the UEH had achieved fruitful research and experience in this field of study and wished the consideration of these expertise.

According to the Minister Jumeau, "With this program, Haiti will be able to develop its own capacity and meet its own energy needs [...] it is advantageous for Haiti to work in renewable energy, to the extent that they are available in the country," promising the full support of Government for the success of the project.

For their part, the vices rectors Jean Poincy and Fritz Deshomme, highlighted the positive impact that renewable energy project will have, both on the UEH than on the country, focusing on the two axes of the project: "the establishment of a master's program in renewable energy, including solar" and "the installation of a network of laboratories in this field."
