Monday, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, with especially with especially Marie Carmèle Rose Anne Auguste, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, in charge of Human Rights and the Fight against Extreme Poverty, Fresner Dorcin, Secretary of State for Plant Production and Clark Neptune Director General of the Directorate General of Taxes, met the press about the progress of tourism development project "Destination Île-à-Vache"...

"The Project Destination Ile-a-Vache, has two components: the first is related to social inclusion and the fight against poverty and the second concerns the tourist development of the island,"recalled Ms. Villedrouin

"We can not leave people aside in the process of tourism development in the region [...] Therefore the Government ensures to establish a set of social projects that promote the involvement of all people in the execution of this vast development plan," stated Minister Augustus, during his speech.

For its part, Fresner Dorcin, announced the start of several agricultural programs and of mangrove rehabilitation project to consolidate the fishing activity on the island.

In addition, the Planning and Development Corporation (SODADE), which coordinates social projects as part of the development plan, reviewed the different work already done on Ile-a-Vache, and presented the chronogram of start of about 8 other social projects of the Phase II. The first work of this Phase II should begin on March 14, according to Ms. Sabine Malebranche Pésidente of the Department of Urban Planning to the State University of Haiti and founding partner of the SODADE.

"The question of access is a fundamental element in the development process of a tourist destination," explained René Hubert, Coordinator of the Steering Committee and designer of the tourist development of the island. He reported on the development work of a scenic route, connecting Kay Kok and Pointe-eastern of the region and and stated that "Facilitating access by air with the construction of the airport, the dredging of Port Ms. Bernard, are, among others, major infrastructure work in progress."

Furthermore, the Minister of Tourism reiterated that "no inhabitant will be expelled from the island in the process of implementation of the project" Destination Ile-a-Vache3, has indicated that awareness platforms had been formed with representatives from various areas of the island, to serve "as a conduit of information to the population."
