Haiti - Training : Establishment of the Garment Technology Training Center in Caracol

Wednesday, the Government of South Korea, through the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has launched at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) the project for the Establishment of the Garment Technology Training Center at SONAPI park, Caracol, in the presence among others of the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry of Education, the National Society of Industrial Parks (SONAPI), the Technical Implementation Unit (UTE), the National Institute for Development and promotion of Couture (INDEPCO), UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)

The KOICA has allocated a total amount of US$3.5 millions for the implementation of this project according to an agreement signed between KOICA and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Haiti. This project aims to train unskilled women to be employed in the Northern Region of Haiti to meet the demand of garment industry and to contribute to employment and income generation as well as to reduce poverty and promote sustainable economic development in Haiti.

According to Chief Representative of KOICA in Haiti, Mr. Sae Chul OH, land inside SONAPI Caracol of 10,500 m2 were provided by the Haitian Government to KOICA so that they can construct a Training Center, provide Equipments, Train Haitian Personnel for the Operation of the Center and finally dispatch Korean Experts to the Training Center.
