Haiti - Humanitarian : The Dumont d'Urville delivered 4 tons of humanitarian aid in Haiti

As part of a new training and regional cooperation mission with the Dominican armed forces (exercise Dunas 2014) and of bilateral relations between France and Haiti, the Dumont d'Urville, a BATRAL-class landing ship (Light ferry ship) of the French National Navy, stopped in Haiti on March 18. This is the 4th stop of the ship in Port-au-Prince [in December 2011, March 2012 and March 2013].

4 tons of humanitarian aid [medical equipment, school books, clothes, shoes and toys] collected by the Emergency Caribbean, Martinique Red Cross and the Kiwanis Club of Schoelcher associations, loaded on March 11 at the Naval Base of Fort-de-France, were handed over to the Embassy of France in Haiti, for the benefit of hospitals, maternity hospitals, health centers, schools, orphanages, libraries and charities, including "The Salesian Fathers" and "The Little Sisters of charity".

On Wednesday, a tour was organized for thirty students of French Lycée and a few journalists. This Thursday, "Dumont d'Urville" will conduct a reconnaissance of the beach of Grand Goâve (Region des Palmes) for a possible future "beaching" before leaving Haiti in the evening.
