Haiti - Politic : Steven Benoit resigns from the Senate office

In a letter delivered to Parliament Friday (dated yesterday) Senator Steven Benoit resigned from his position of first secretary of the office of the Senate "Upon receipt of this, please have the courtesy to inform the members of the Bureau of the Senate and the Assembly of senators of my irrevocable decision to resign from the position of first secretary. "

This decision could have, among other grounds, the signature by Senator Benoit (duly mandated by the President of the Senate) of the Agreement El Rancho and the controversy surrounding the article concerning the amendment of the electoral law which states "Article 12: In cases where amendments to the electoral law planned and proposed in the framework of the dialogue are not passed by the two branches of Parliament within the period prescribed in section eight (8) of this Agreement, the Parties note with the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) the physical impossibility of applying Articles referred.

Consequently, the Parties agree that the said articles are automatically in hold and the electoral body is allowed to override."

On the other hand attempts of Senator Steven Benoit to make believe that he had signed the agreement without reading it and that Article 12 had been added without his knowledge, saying the victim of a trap... Contradicts not only by the stakeholders agreement but aloso by the mediator, could also not be a stranger to this resignation.

Note that the Senate has not yet ruled on the acceptance of the resignation letter.
