Haiti - FLASH : The Government convened the population in elections

Tuesday, Lucien Jura, the Spokesman of the Presidency, has officially announced that the President Martelly had signed the order (dated March 10, 2014), convening the people of Haiti in elections "President Michel Martelly signed a Presidential order convening the people in elections to elect 20 senators [two thirds of the Senate] and 112 deputies."

Sunday, October 26 is the date for the by-elections "The first round of parliamentary elections will take place on October 26. The second ballot will be set by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP)," said Lucien Jura.

According to the order, Sunday, Dec. 28 will be held the elections of local authorities for 140 mayors, 570 Boards of Directors of the Communal Sections (CASEC) and 570 Assemblies Communal Sections (ASEC).

Lucien Jura stressed that after all the concessions made by the Head of State, the country could not wait, nor continued to be held hostage by 6 senators in opposition [Jean-Baptiste Bien-Aîmé (Northeast), Jean-Charles Moïse (North), Francky Exius (South), Westner Polycarpe (North), John Joël Joseph (West) et Jean William Jeanty (Nippes)].

Elections will be held under the electoral bill ratified by the lower house, despite the absence of ratification, for the moment, by the Senate, in accordance with what provide El Rancho agreement in the event of deadlock, in its Article 12.
