Haiti - Social : Notre-Dame Hospital of Petit-Goâve paralyzed by a strike

Thursday, all the services of the Notre-Dame Hospital of Petit Goâve have been paralyzed due to a strike triggered by the 80 employees remunerated, claiming their 18 months salary arrears totaling, according to them 2 million Gourdes...

These employees are very critical vis-à-vis the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Watson Exantus (in office since 23 July 2012) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-6208-haiti-health-new-director-at-the-hospital-notre-dame-of-petit-goave.html whose they demand the resignation for reasons of inefficient management, irresponsibility and repeated absences.

Employees triggered this protest movement following the publication by the Director Exantus of a notice terminating the activities of all staff remunerated.

"The appointment of Dr. Watson Exantus at the head of Notre Dame hospital, only aggravates further the situation of the health institution of reference [...] The hospital has declined, it has become worse than before," explained doctors and patients...

François Roland, the hospital administrator, took the opportunity to explain the needs of this hospital "We need a cardiologist, dermatologist, a qualified pediatrician and other physicians," while deploring the behavior of some physicians assigned to the hospital, which are often absent in their jobs "Yet they regularly receive their wages..." François Roland asks Florence Duperval Guillaume, Minister of Public Health and Population, to dispatch in emergency a to Petit-Goâve to solve these various problems...
