For the first time, the Haitian government initiates a process of modernization of the public company "Electricity of Haiti" (EDH), by launching an international call for tenders for the selection of a strategic investor for the production, transportation , distribution and marketing of electricity in the department of South-East.

For this pilot project, the government seeks to grant a concession to an operator with confirmed expertise and capital required. Investors selected must commit to provide services at international standard and provide the department of infrastructure and equipment to meet the demand, in the perspective of a regular development of the economic activity.

The concept of concession retained, is a true Public/Private Partnership (PPP) with certain specificities imposed by the 1996 Act. This is a mechanism that requires the investor to build new production capacity, to rehabilitate existing equipment and grid within the perimeter conceded, to finance the operations, operate the assets for a specified period and finally transfer it to the end of the concession.

Administration Lamothe wants a revolution in the Electricity sector in particular, to be able to guarantee to a reasonable price, the availability of electric power of quality, 24/7, throughout the territory and, especially for those who want to invest in Haiti.

Interested bidders to that tender have until September 22, 2014 to submit their applications, including technical and financial proposal to the Council for the Modernization of Public Enterprises in Port-au-Prince.
