Haiti - Health : Notre-Dame Hospital in Petit-Goâve again paralyzed by strike

Following the strike that paralyzed Thursday, June 12th the Notre-Dame Hospital in Petit-Goâve triggered by 80 salaried, who demanded inter alia, 18 months salary arrears https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11365-haiti-social-notre-dame-hospital-of-petit-goave-paralyzed-by-a-strike.html a delegation from the Ministry of Health led by Dr. Gessie Pierre Saint-Louis, Director of the Health Department of the West went on site Monday, June 16 to investigate the situation and provide solutions to the various various faced by the hospital.

Following this meeting Ms. Pierre Saint-Louis had confirmed to micro of journalists "The activities will resume at the hospital. We will restructure the Hospital. Paid employees have presented us their grievances. In two weeks we will meet them again, to permanently solve the problem [...] The important thing is that the strike ends. However, since Tuesday, July 8, the Notre-Dame Hospital is again paralyzed by a strike triggered by the salaried, who accuse the Ministry of Health to not fulfill its obligations. Only the morgue and the ambulance service still work.

Angry employees dumped waste on the courtyard of the hospital... Patients emptied places. The doctors are not present. It is a total paralysis. The population of Petit-Goâve threat to take to the streets to compel officials to find a definitive solution to the probleme faced by the hospital.

"We will continue the strike until the end, whatever happens... The Ministry of Health is responsible for the failure of the hospital, because it refuses to pay us our salary arrears... We are ready to go on condition that the Ministry pays us," launched the furious strikers.
