On Thursday, the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) after a difficult vote 5 votes in favor, 4 against (the President of the Council, Me Anel Alexis Joseph, had to vote to break the tie vote), has finally designated a new representative to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

Ms. Yolette Mengual, former journalist andwomen's rights activist, will replace to the CEP Marie Carole Floréal Duclervil.

With that designation and that of the new representative of Parliament, Max Mathurin and after publication of the decree confirming these appointments; Me Néhémy Joseph and Léopold Berlanger https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11139-haiti-elections-installation-of-members-of-the-provisional-electoral-council.html sould join the CEP and swear with the 2 new advisors in order that the Electoral Council is finally complete and open the way for ratification of the electoral law in the Senate, prerequisite required by the senators.

Me Jacques Létang, representing the Federation of Bar Associations of Haiti, in CSPJ, deplores the lack of consensus, but considers that the vote is consistent with the law establishing the CSPJ.

However, it is not sure that this ratification of the electoral law, is done without difficulty, even if the President of the Senate, Simon Dieuseul Desras in loss of authority and credibility, declared recently "Senators said me that they are ready to consider the amendment of the electoral law, once the Electoral Council will be complete." Indeed, the new representative of the CSPJ is already criticized by opposition senators for his alleged pro-government position.
