Haiti - Elections : New postponement for the registrations of candidates, wrong reason

The registrations of candidates to the Deputation and Senate was originally scheduled for July 4 to 17 was postponed to July 12. In a statement Frizto Canton, President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced a new postponement of the start of registration at an unspecified date...

"The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) inform the actors concerned by the evolution of the electoral process that, mainly because of the strike of Magistrates in functionon the whole territory of the Republic, the formality of registration of candidates, has been postponed to a later date.

The Council invites all parties to remain vigilant and attentive to any new date to be determined by the Electoral Administration for the proper conduct of operations thus defined.

The Council then thank the entire population for their support and understanding constantly reaffirmed for the purpose of achievement and success of these elections."

Why invoke as "main reason," a 24-hours work stoppage of magistrates held on July 14 ? The CEP should not recognize that this delay is due to the competition admissions for the implementation of the decentralized CEP bodies, namely the Departmental Electoral Offices (BED) and Communal Electoral Offices (BEC), originally scheduled for June 21 and which finally took place on July 6 ? Accordingly, the delay before the start of registration (6 days) did not allow to establish staff in BED and BEC, making it impossible the deposit into these offices, of candidacy for deputies and the Senate.
