Haiti - Social : D-2, official launch of the Carnival of Flowers 2014

Thursday at the National Palace, President Michel Martelly, in the presence among others of Monique Rocourt, Minister of Culture, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries, Joseph P.R. Duplan, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince, Gonzague Day, Departmental Delegate West, members of the Carnival Committee, designers and Haitian stylists who participated in the realization of costumes and 9 queens elected, has launched the activities of the 3rd Edition of the Carnival of Flowers, which will take place in Port-au-Prince on 27, 28 and 29 July.

The ceremony was an opportunity for the Head of State to publicly thank the organizers of the Carnival of Flowers, 2014 edition, for the tremendous work they have done and took the opportunity to urge revelers to cultivate the spirit of solidarity.

9 young girls were chosen as queens to scroll on the course during the three days; among them, Miss Lovely Lemairea was elected Queen of Queens. Several tens of disguised wlking groups, walking bands, and 12 musical groups : Anbyans, Barikad Crew, Carimi, Chalè, Djakout #1, Koudjay, Kreyol La, K-Zino, Rockfam, Team Lobey, T-Micky and T-Vice, will put dignity in value our cultural identity and the tourist potential of Haiti under the theme : "Se la pou w la".

President Martelly believes that this great cultural event will have a positive economic impact in particular on the commercial sector and it is an opportunity to sell a better image of the country linternational and attract tourists.

The Head of State praised the efforts of the National Police of Haiti that manages to maintain a stable security environment in the country and hoped that the police institution can guarantee the safety of festival goers over the three days of celebration.
