On Wednesday, the First Lady, Sophia Martelly, participated in the inauguration of the Maternity SONUB of Thiotte (Southeast) and the reopening of the Centre for Obstetric Care of Banane, located in the first communal section of Anse-à Pitre.

On Wednesday, the First Lady, Sophia Martelly, participated in the inauguration of the Maternity SONUB Thiotte (Southeast) and the reopening of the Centre for Banana Obstetric Care, located in the first communal section of Anse-à Pitre.

Both ceremonies were held in the presence of Florence D. Guillaume, Minister of Public Health and Population (MSPP), Jean Camille Desmarattes Deputy of the constituency Thiotte / Grand Gosier, Patrick Nicoloso, Ambassador of France accredited in Port-au-Prince, Dr. Ted Lazarre, Departmental Director of Health, Pierre-Michel Lafontant, Departmental Delegate of the Southeast, the Mayors of the Municipality of Thiotte and Anse-à-Pitre and technical and financial partners of the Ministry.

In his speech, Dr. Ted Lazarre emphasized the impact of these initiatives on the reduction of morbidity and mortality in the department and stressed that they will allow Haitians to have equitable access to services and quality care.

Minister Guillaume, thanked the ministry partners who have enabled the Government to reduce maternal mortality and neo-infantile by emphasizing on the mission of his ministry, which is to guarantee to all citizens without distinction, the right to life, health and provide them in all local authorities, the appropriate means for the protection, maintenance and restoration of their health.

The First Lady who was making his second visit to Thiotte, reiterated its commitment to continue its advocacy to reduce the risk of maternal and neonatal mortality and invited the public to play its part by respecting the authorities' instructions on health. Urging doctors, nurses, assistants, midwives, housewives and any other employee who has to work in this institution, to make efforts so that it may become a reference center, encouraging everyone to make good use of the latter.

During the reopening ceremony of the Center for Obstetric Care of Banane, the First Lady stressed the need for women to choose a family planning method, to control their fertility.
