Haiti - Economy : Index of Consumer Prices (July 2014)

The General Index of Consumer Prices (Base 100 in August 2004) increased during the month of July 2014, increasing to 218.9 against 217.3 in June, a 4.8% yoy up +0.7% (same monthly upward progression than last month) compared with 4.2% the previous month.

The monthly variation in the month of July was mainly due to the upward trend of the indices of consumption: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (0.6%), "Clothing and fabrics, shoes" (+1.7%), "rent Housing, Energy and Water "(+0.8%). "Development and Maintenance of Housing" (+0.6%), "Health" (+1.6%) and "Other Goods and Services" (+1.6%).

The increase in "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" index is due to the price increases in : wheat flour (+0.7%), bread (+1.0%) of beef and pork (+3.9%) of goat meat (3.8%), chicken (+3.2%) , ham (+9.3%), fresh fish (+5.5%), the red herring (+1.9%), salt herring (+1.6%), cod (+5.2%), peanut butter (+2.0%) of giraumont (+1.3%) of the marker (+1.5%), leeks (+7.3%), eggplant (+1.7%), onion (+1.1%) tomato (+2.2%), yams (+2.4%), sweet potato (+1.6%) and potato (+0.7%), orange (+1.7%) of chadèque the (+0.7%) and cigarettes (+3.8%).

Note that the increase in "Clothing and Textiles, Footwear" index was attributable in particular to rising prices in such products: tissues (+1.2%), costume, universal jacket (+1.9%), shirt (+2.9%), t-short man (+2.5%), pants for men (+2.0%), shirt (+1.4 %), dress (+0.9%), Minor (+1.1%), t-short women (+2.8%), tailoring (+1.5%), socks (+0.8%) and tennis shoes (+2.1% ) and sandals (+2.0%).

The increase in "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" index is related specifically to the function rent housing (+0.7%) and charcoal (+1.7%).

The increase in the "Maintenance Planning and Housing" index is particularly related to rising price in : living room furniture (+0.8%), dining room (+0.7%), bed (+0.7%), lap (+1.4%), refrigerator (+1.2%), disinfectant (+2.0%), staff salaries (+0.9%) and dry cleaning (+1.8%).

Inflationary pressures in the "Health" index is mainly due to prescription glasses (+1.5%), fees paid to physicians (+2.0%), the laboratory analysis, X-ray (+2.6%) and hospital costs (+2.1%).

Finally, the products that contributed most to the increase in the index "Other Goods and Services" are: toothpaste (+0.7%), shampoo (+2.0%), perfume and eau de toilette (+1.7%), powder toilet (+3.6%), a body cream (+1.5%), spa treatments (+1.1%) and shows (+6.6%).

Other goods and services : 10.7%

General Price Index by Region (Variation on a month) :

Metropolitan Area: +0.8% (Includes Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.)

Rest West: +0.7% (includes departments SouthEast and West excluding the Metropolitan Area)

North: +0.7% (including the departments of North, Northeastern and Northwest)

South: +0.7% (including departments of South Grand Anse and Nippes)

Transversal: +0.8% (including departments of Centre and Artibonite)
