Haiti - Health : First mobile clinic in schools

Thursday, in an effort to improve access and availability of health care in schools, the First Lady, Sophia Martelly, accompanied by Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, Minister of Public Health and Population and Dr. Georges Dubuche, Director General of the Ministry, launched at the National School Argentine Bellegarde, on the ruelle vaillant, the first day of consultation under the pilot Program of Mobile Units for Health in Schools (UMSE) .

Funded to the tune of USD 600,000 by the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), three buses arranged and equipped with all necessary equipment, with a staff of nine doctors and three nurses, will provide oral care, the concepts of hygiene, control of vision with eye doctors, preventive care (deworming, vitamin A, vaccination). The minister Guillaume, said that 21 schools were selected for the month of September and each month the mobile units will provide rotations in selected schools in the main cities of the country, in consultation with the Ministry of Education and Ministry .

The First Lady congratulated the Minister Guillaume for this initiative and reiterated the will of the Head of State to provide a better life for all the children of Haiti. "The Martelly administration has understood that a sick child will not be able to give satisfactory results, hence the implementation of this program in schools designed to improve access and availability of health care through these mobile units [...]"

Designed for schoolchildren from three to fourteen, the UMSE will allow them to receive free health care in their institutions and will contribute to provide timely response to the problem of accessibility and availability of health care to children in disadvantaged areas.

During the first day, which was held under the theme " la sante pou timoun lekòl", more than a hundred children have been able to do a medical check, receive vitamin A, iron, acid folic, vaccines etc...
