Haiti - Reconstruction : IDB will fund important infrastructures on the island of La Gonâve

Under the Special Plan for the Island of La Gonâve and commitments made ​​to the people by the Government during the "Gouvènman an lakay ou" program, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has decided to fund several major projects on the island.

The IDB approved among others the Government's request to provide the island of adequate school building and has committed to fund the construction of two schools that can accommodate 820 students and the project to build 30 km road linking Anse-à-Galet and Pointe-à-Raquette.

Thnaks funding from the IDB, the Government will build 150 social housing. Furthermore, it will benefit of support of the bank for the construction of a micro-park and its financial and technical support to small and medium enterprises of the inhabitants of the island.

Also last Friday, on the instructions of Prime Minister Lamothe, Marie Mimose Félix, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, in charge of promoting the Peasantry and the Deputy Director of the cabinet of the Head of State, Abel Nazaire, have visited La Gonâve at the head of a delegation in order to proceed with the formation of the Monitoring Committee of "Gouvènman an lakay ou" (GOL) of the island. The committee, which will be among others composed of representatives of the local governance and members of civil society of La Gonâve, will have for mission to monitoring the 63 commitments made by the Government, particularly in the areas of sanitation, school, sports, urban renewal, support agricultural development, small and medium enterprises, housing.
