Haiti - Politic : The term of office of senators in September 2015, according to Senate President...

While President Martelly continues its consultations, initiated on September 22 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12116-haiti-politic-first-day-of-dialogue-with-president-martelly.html with political actors and other sectors of national life, in order to resolve the pre-electoral crisis, Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras, President of the Senate remained silent until now said Thursday that among all the proposals proposed to the head of State, only that of the Organization of People in Struggle (OPL) is to retain.

Recall that the OPL has proposed that the deputiers and the 10 senators, whose term expires remain in office until the holding of elections for their replacement "This proposal is apparently correct," affirmed Senator Desras who stresses that the OPL not talking about extending the mandate but of respect of mandates, noting that senators were sworn September 9, 2009 and therefore the end of their term, is September 9, 2015 and not on the second Monday of January 2015.

Forgetting a little faster, that the amended 1987 Constitution in Article 95 does not calculate the term of office of 6 years from the date of swearing but states "[...] Elected senators take office immediately after the validation of the election and their six (6) years mandate is supposed to have started on the second Monday of January of the year of taking office." thus clearly, the terms of senators constitutionally started well on the second Monday of 2009 and not in September 2009 as would like lead us to believe Senator Desras.

Moreover, as part of the consultations of the Executive, the President Michel Martelly is expected to meet at the Karibe Convention Center, this Monday, October 13 from 11:00 am, political opposition parties to which are attached the Senators of the opposition, members of G6.
