Haiti - Petit-Goâve : The Special Technical Committee is not here to stay

Saturday, during the installation of the Special Technical Committee (CTS) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12367-haiti-politic-installation-of-the-special-technical-committee-in-petit-goave.html that will temporarily manage the municipal administration of Petit-Goâve, placed under the supervision of the State https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12300-haiti-flash-petit-goave-placed-under-the-supervision-of-the-state.html Marc Chavannes, the Deputy Director of local authorities and the President of CTS declared "The meeting ofthis morning wants to be a collective consciousness in order to curb such a socio-political disturbances. Since 2 months, Petit-Goâve face a period of effervescence for its development. All kinds of rumors have been circulating regarding the Ministry of the Interior even wanting to make it responsible for everything that happens. The Ministry remained consistent with itself by issuing several statements in the media to clarify its position... The Department could not set itself up as executive to appoint a permanent cartel to manage Petit-Goâve. However, in its capacity as supervisory Ministry, it formed a committee of three members with a mandate to provide services to the community."

For his part, Major Patrick Henry Bastien, Assistant Director General of the Ministry of Interior, stated "We came to fulfill a role of temporary administrators. The Ministry of the Interior placed under supervision the town of Petit-Goâve to allow the population to benefit from basic services because people can not suffer from a lack of services because the current cartel is obsolete and funds of the Town Hall of Petit-Goâve are now frozen [...] The mission of the Committee will be short. I ask the public to remain calm. As long as people keep calm and there will be no disorder, as the Committee will spend less time in Petit-Goâve, it will only remain there a few days.

[...] The Town Hall will now work to provide services to the population. Meanwhile, a new municipal cartel will be named. Negotiations are already starting and everyone will participate. When the new cartel will be installed, it will remain in place until the next election and the CTS will transmit it the administrative tasks [...] I hope that by Monday everything will start to work: offices, schools, public market and hospitals."
