Haiti - Ebola : 140 Gendarmes blocked in Senegal, Haiti asking tests

A contingent of 140 Senegalese gendarmes who were to take over from their colleagues in Haiti is blocked for nearly 10 days in Dakar because of health measures of Haiti against Ebola virus.

The Haitian authorities require Ebola tests for each member of the contingent before authorizing landing in Port-au-Prince, Senegal, exasperated by this attitude, has resolved to call on the United Nations Organization to resolve the situation. The United Nations in the process of testing the Ebola virus, as agreed with Port-au-Prince.

Almost all Senegalese gendarmes have passed the test and expect the results to be available, to be able to embark and take the leadership of Haiti. Some members of the contingent regret this incident. The Commander Pape Ibrahima Diop explained that for some time, the medical tests are made mandatory by the UN for such a mission and that Senegal is in the process of complying with the regulations adding that he expected green light from the UN to embark towards Port-au-Prince.
