Haiti - Education : Distribution of checks of 100,000 gourdes

The Ministry of National Education and Professional Formation (Ministère de l’Éducation Nationale et de la Formation Professionnelle MENFP) started to distribute checks of 100.000 gourdes to the persons in charge of private schools damaged or destroyed by the seism of January 12th. The schools concerned are those which did not profit from the Programme "of Education for All" (d’Éducation pour Tous).

According Lunise Jules Céri, the coordinator of this program to support schools, "2 million gourdes was already committed within the framework of the implementation of the project and a hundred schools already received their check." She wished to clarify that "a second distribution will take place later for other eligible institutions that are not on the first list".

The Association of the Private schools and the Community Federation of the Schools of Nippes complain that the institutions most affected in the department do not appear on the list of beneficiaries. These organizations call on the authorities to correct this situation and provide financial support to the institutions most affected by this disaster.
