Haiti - Music : 9th International Jazz Festival of Port-au-Prince

From Saturday 17 to Saturday, January 24, 2015, Haiti will host the 9th edition of International Jazz Festival of Port-au-Prince (PAPJAZZ). 11 countries invited to participate in this event (Belgium, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, United States, Trinidad and for the first time Great Britain). 30 concerts will be offered to the public as well as "after-hours jam sessions" every evening, on new sites.

A new opportunity to discover international artists, renowned Haitian artists and rising stars as well as the Creole Jazz "Made in Haiti", and for the Haitian diaspora and foreigners to visit Haiti. Recall that the International Jazz Festival of Port-au-Prince welcomes every year nearly 15,000 spectators and offers an international scene to about ten Haitian groups

Headliners 2015 come from the US, Canada, France, Trinidad and Tobago, from Haiti and its diaspora including :

  • "The Yellow Jackets" : Legendary jazz fusion group, from United States, recipient of two Grammy Awards (a Fondation Haiti Jazz production) ;

  • Ranee Lee : Canadian jazz singer winner of a Juno Award ;

  • Laurent de "Wilde Power Trio" : Trio of French jazz pianist whose last album was cheered by jazz critics ;

  • Étienne Charles : Talented trumpeter of Jazz Caribbean from Trinidad and Tobago; (a Fondation Haiti Jazz production) ;

  • Maya Azucena : American singer committed to the cause of women in the world ;

  • Tabou Combo : Konpa legendary group, which will be accompanied by the very talented jazz saxophonist Haitian, Jowee Omicil ;

  • Chardavoine : One of the Haitian jazz guitarists and Creole jazz most promising.

This year the Festival introduces new scenes since its closure will be on the scene of the Air France of Triomphe. As promised, the Festival resumed its place at the Champs de Mars with the performance of Tabou Combo and Jowee Omicil, that will succeed to those of Triomphe, in kiosque Occide Jeanty.
