Dialog spaces which surround the initiatives carried out in creation of the park of Martissant updated the needs for management of waste which invades the zone. Factors of insalubrity, not managed waste present dangers for the health of the inhabitants of the district. The committed discussions made it possible to release the constraints, to share the responsibilities and to define a project whose objectives aim at considering the ways and means of exit.

The team of this project of management of waste with Martissant, furrowed the zone in order to locate and to refer the sites of deposits savage. 12 sites until now were identified. This work of ground makes it possible to better understand the morphology of the districts to define functional units in the management systems of waste.

A draft Waste Management has been developed by the Fokal including the European Union has become the financial partner. The idea is to achieve the establishment of a system of waste management for the park, which also enhances organizational structures in the area and the capacity of local communities. To this end the project seeks to support them in exercising their right of citizens to enjoy a healthy environment, but also make them aware of their duties and responsibilities.

In the long term, organizational structures should be guarantors of good practice and enable communities to provide independently the sustainability of actions. Local schools will also be heavily involved in the project to educate youngsters to the waste problem.

This project takes into account the phase of collect, transport, recovery and disposal of waste. The approach is based on the sorting of waste in households, transport to the mini-recycling centers or disposal sites controlled. The transport from disposal sites controlled to discharges will be serviced by the metropolitan solid waste collection (Service métropolitain de collecte de résidus solides SMCRS)

The state structures in the area of waste management are weak, they will be supported in their task in this project so they can provide the most appropriate services possible to citizens. The persons in charge of the inspection the quality of life of the Town hall will be informed and sensitized as for the role that they have to play in the community.

This project of management of waste seeks to take part in the installation of a strategic policy of management of solid waste in the country, in collaboration with the cell of management of waste of the public Ministry of Public Works.
