Haiti - Potitic : Violence in Fort-Liberté, high-level meeting

Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe presided yesterday Thursday a high-level meeting at the Primature around the events occurred in the Northeast department since the past few days, among others, in Fort Liberté violent protests to demand that the city is connected to the electrical grid of Caracol, resulting in more than a dozen injured, including some shot and wounded, blocking streets, of the economy...

Still with the aim to address the concerns of the population and to bring sustainable solutions, the discussions were very lively between the Prime Minister and dignitaries who attended the meeting. Participated in this meeting the Ministers of Justice, Me Jean Renel Sanon, of the nterior, Mr. Réginald Delva, of the communication Rudy Hériveaux, and the Director of the National Police, Mr. Godson Orélus and Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General Mr. Carl Alexander. After this working session, the following provisions have been adopted :

1- An extraordinary meeting will be held on Monday, December 1, between the Government and USAID to determine the modalities of connection of Fort-liberté and Ouanamithe to the power plant of Caracol ;

2- A technical mission of the NRECA firm will travel to Fort-Liberté, Tuesday, December 2, in order to assess the situation ;

3- The Ed'H will proceed with the repair of four energy groups in Central Chevry ;

4- Pending the outcome of discussions with NRECA firm such repair work of the Central Chevry will allow to power the municipalities of Fort-Liberté and Ouanaminthe for about 6 hours a day ;

5- Police were instructed to take all legal provisions to allow the public to attend peacefully about their business.

Moreover, while being in solidarity with demands of the population of Fort-Liberté and Ouanaminthe, the Government appealed for calm and invites citizens to not reply to incitement to violence.
