It is in the 12nd communal section of Léogâne specifically in the newly reconstructed premises of the School Bonne Nouvelle of Bigonet, that was recently held the inauguration of three new primary and secondary schools built by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) : the School Bonne Nouvelle and Epiphanie of Léogâne and the School St Philippe and St Jacques in Gressier, all three destroyed in the earthquake of January 2010.

Today 1,050 students return to the bench of the schools with the reconstruction of these facilities by construction firms G&L and Keenlink and UNPD Haiti, in partnership with the Finn Church Aid (FCA), the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), and the Anglican Education Office in Haiti (BAEH), with financial support of the Government of Finland.

Uluc Baslanti, Regional Representative FCA, for his part, praised the contribution of the communities in the context of these achievements, which will help build the future of these cities "Even with the most sophisticated materials and the most ingenious specialists, this work would not have been possible without the cooperation of the community. Citizens have worked hard to build these schools [...]".

Sophie de Caen, the Senior Director of UNDP emphasized that these achievements have had a direct and significant economic impact on families "During the construction phase, the project supported the local economy through the creation of 800 short-term jobs including 200 held by women. Families were able to increase their income and set up new small businesses that drive life in these areas devoid of almost everything."

In his speech, Guy Carlo Durandis, Representative of the NCA, commended the establishment of a system to recycle waste while reducing the risk of contamination that could result. "All schools have a system called biodigester. This technology can transform waste into energy to be used for cooking meals for students. In addition, this biodigester will produce fertilizer for the soil."

Three other schools of the same type will be inaugurated soon in Léogâne and Jacmel.
