Haiti - Elections : The holders of CIN expiring in 2015 will be able to vote

In order to reassure voters, who are worried about the expiration of their National ID card because of the absence of a date for the next elections (over 500,000 persons concerned), Jean-Baptiste Saint-Cyr, Director of the National Identification Office (ONI) confirmed that Haitian citizens whose CIN issued in 2005, which expire in 2015, will be able to vote even if their card has expired and has not been renewed at the time of voting.

Jean-Baptiste Saint-Cyr pointed out that with the financial support of the United States, Canada and other donors, several recording equipment at national level as well as in Haiti's consulates abroad will be installed, which will allow Haitians in the diaspora to renew their CIN without having to travel to Haiti.

Note that the current production capacity of CIN by ONI is about 25,000 cards per month.
