Haiti - Politic : New outbreak of violence in Petit-Goâve

Friday afternoon, at the 36th demonstration organized by the Democratic Opposition Bloc (BOD) [affiliated MOPOD], and the National Liberation Front (FNL), the two main branches of local opposition; the agents of the Departmental Unit for Maintaining Order (UDMO), have arrested three young people: Fritzner, Blanco, Woodmaer. These young militants were suspected of throwing stones against the protesters on the National Road #2, in Belle Avenue, a popular neighborhood of Petit-Goâve, at clashes between opposition supporters and those of the "base 509", which threw stones and bottles. "Some young people were in possession of machetes and automatic weapons," witnesses said on site.

Johnny, a young boy member of the opposition had to be rushed to hospital after having been severely his by a rock close to Belle Avenue. Police had to intervene to disperse violent demonstrators and avoid the worst.

Protesters increasingly angry and hostile to the Deputy Jacques Stevenson Thimoléon, President of the Lower House, toured the city, demanding the installation of a new municipal cartel, the departure of President Martelly and the holding of good elections.

Furthermore, the leaders of the National Liberation Front now claim their participation in decisions that commit the country. They would like to appear alongside the main national actors who decide the future of Haiti.

By late afternoon we learned that the three youths arrested by UDMO had finally been released by police.
