Haiti - Elections : 24 hours to present candidates for the CEP !

Following the agreement concluded Sunday, 11 January between President Martelly and various political parties for the holding of elections, the General Secretariat of the Presidency, in a press release informs the population in general that the President of the Republic is working to the formation of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) which must organize the upcoming legislative, municipal and local elections in greater transparency.

"Entities selected to participate in the constitution of the CEP :

1. The Episcopal Conference of Haiti, one member;

2. Reformed Worship, one member;

3. The Peasant Sector / Voodoo, one member;

4. The Patronal sector, one member;

5. Sector Trade Union, one member;

6. Press sector, one member;

7. The University sector, one member;

8. Woman sector, one member;

9. Human Rights sector, one member.

Each of these entities has been informed by letter of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, they have, from its receipt, a delay of 24 hours to present to the President of the Republic, two independent persons having no partisan affiliation, whose one is the main choice and the other alternative choices.

Under the same agreement, three sectors have been specifically designated to be represented by women in CEPto respond to the quota principle recognized in Article 17.1 of the Constitution [30%]. These are the University, Women and Trade Union sectors. The two choices of these entities (Principal and alternative choice) must be female personalities.

According to the same agreement signed between the President of the Republic and the political parties, governments, public administration will not be represented in CEP."
