Haiti - Politic : Net increase in violence during protests in Port-au-Prince

Unlike the anti-government demonstration on Wednesday, the Thursday saw a net increase of popular violence. The situation was tense near the Faculty of Human Sciences and close to other schools where students were very angry against those responsible for transport union organizations that have accepted "a ridiculous down" in fuel prices. In addition to lower fuel prices protesters demanded the resignation of President Martelly.

Not far from the Faculty of Ethnology, the situation was also tense. Police officers fired into the air to disperse the beginning of a student demonstration. Burning tires barricades were erected on the road and protesters threw stones and bottles, paralyzing all traffic while police replied with tear gas.

A student of the Faculty of Ethnology was wounded in the foot by a bullet in the enclosure of the Faculty and was rushed to a hospital in the capital.

In addition, a group of students and of members of popular organizations organized a sit-in in front of the Ministries of Economy and that of Justice at the Avenue Charles Summer. Security officers of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, joined by many officers of the Corps of Intervention and Maintenance of Order (CIMO) fired in the air and used tear gas to disperse demonstrators, who knocked the door of the institution with stones.

During this eventful day, Antoine Jean-Baptiste, a journalist of Radio Vision 2000, was also shot and wounded.

Windshields breakage have been reported in several places and a vehicle registered "state service" was was burned by angry students on Avenue Christoph

Students and other opposition protesters threatened to disrupt the Carnival festivities if gas prices do not go down further.

Another demonstration is planned for Saturday, the organizers encourage businesses to close and called for the mobilization...
