Monday, the Director of the Department for Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO) of the Organization of American States (OAS), Gerardo de Icaza, met with members of the Provisional Electoral Council of Haiti on behalf of the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza.

Director De Icaza is visiting Port-au-Prince to continue supporting the electoral process and to learn about key technical and administrative aspects of the upcoming elections. During the meeting with the Council, he reiterated to its members the continued support of Secretary General Insulza for the Haitian democratic process.

In addition, DECO/OAS Electoral Specialist Cristóbal Dupouy will travel to Port-au-Prince where he will hold meetings with different stakeholders throughout the week.

This visit of the OAS officials, falls within the framework of the cooperation, for a solution to the political situation faced by Haiti.
