Haiti - Economy : The business environment seriously affected...

Saturday, the Economic Forum of the Private Sector (FESP), which brings together the main chambers of commerce, employers' associations and major companies in Haiti expressed its deepest concern about the socio-political situation that deteriorates and seriously affect the business environment in the country. "The latest demonstration and strike series have caused considerable slowdown both in the capital and in some provincial towns, and caused huge economic losses.

The latest demonstration and strike series have caused considerable slowdown both in the capital and in some provincial towns, and caused huge economic losses.

The FESP deplores the attacks against the public and private property and the destruction of civil and economic heritage. It condemns all forms of appeal and incitement to violence. The Forum, while recognizing the right of every citizen to strike guaranteed by the constitution, deplores the negative harm of this form of ceaseless protest on the economy in general, the business environment, the smooth running of schools and universities."

The Forum appeals to authorities to take all measures to guarantee and enable people to freely go about their business during these days of strikes and encourages the social sectors and the government to continue the dialogue in order to find a satisfactory consensus on major record.

The FESP recalls that ensuring "stability and peace, is crucial to foster business growth and secure jobs."
