Haiti - Agriculture : 218,000 euros in subsidies to the agribusiness sector 23/03/2015 10:12:46
The Delegation of the European Union (EU) in the presence of Ambassador Javier Nino Perez, Jean-Jacques Charles, National Authorising Officer of the European Development Fund (BONFED) and Jean Claude Mérine Deputy Director of the Binational Program of Caribbean Export, of the Agency for Export Development of the Caribbean, proceeded last week, to the delivery of 10 subsidies (between 6,000 and 30,000 euros each) for a total of 218,000 euros to Haitian companies in the agro-industrial sector. These subsidies, allocated following a call for proposals are part of the binational cooperation program between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, funded by the European Union, which aims to enhance the competitiveness of enterprises with a export potential and supporting organizations supporting private businesses. Specifically, these subsidies will allow the beneficiaries among others: to acquire inputs to increase their production capacity, develop marketing and export strategies, participate in international trade fairs, obtain certificates of quality and support the economic integration between the two nations on the island. List of beneficiaries : Action and Cooperation in Development ; National Association of Fruits Transformers ; Cooperative for the Development of Saint Michel de l'Attalaye ; Fuel Nido ; Fragance Tropicale ; Group J S.A. ; Haiti Shipping Cargo Import Export/Association des Fishermen of Rival ; Marcom Ferme Agricole Gwoupman Elvè pou Devlopman Wanament ; Star Industries S.A. Launched in 2012 for a period of 5 years, the program has a budget of over € 50 million and aims to facilitate the integration of the two economies and respond to the need to harmonize economic relations while accompanying structurally the binational political dialogue. It is part of the activities implemented by Caribbean Export as part of the component "Trade", of the Binational Program Haiti-Dominican Republic, funded by the European Union through the 10th European Development Fund (EDF). The same initiative is organized in parallel in the Dominican Republic. The program further includes an infrastructure component in the border area to the north of the two countries with the construction and rehabilitation of markets and customs of Dajabon and Ouanaminthe as well as rural tracks and roads to bypass the two cities.
