Haiti - FLASH : Family tragedy, two young children die in a fire

Monday night, two young Haitian children Naomi (8 years) and Bolívar (6 years) died in a fire that reduced to ashes the modest wood and cardboard family house, where they lived with their parents in Villa González, Community La Joya (municipal District of Banegas, Santiago) in the Dominican Republic.

Tuesday, according to the statements of Colonel Winston Toribio, the Steward of Fire Department of Villa González, the mother of the two children would not be prudent by leaving the two children alone with a lit candle, which would have set fire to an anti-mosquito fogging. Firefighters arrived on the scene quickly extinguished the fire, which damaged two other nearby homes and found the bodies of two children dead, hidden under the remains of a bed where they had tried in vain to protect themselves from flames.

"Unfortunately, the mother left a lighted candle that caused the fire in the house. We as firefighters tried to contain the blaze to prevent it spreading to most homes, but unfortunately the accident left two victims," lamented Colonel Toribio, who urged parents to never let children home alone and even less with gas lamps or candles lit to avoid such tragedies.
