Haiti - Security : The UN admits the excessive use of force during a demonstration

Monday at a regular press conference in New York, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced that the investigation into allegations of excessive use of force, in December 2014, during a demonstration in Port-au-Prince https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12722-haiti-politic-violent-protest-in-the-capital-the-minustah-intervenes.html involving two members of a formed police unit in the UN peacekeeping force in Haiti (MINUSTAH) was complete.

The results of the investigation indicate that "one of the persons mentioned has used excessive force without receiving permission," during a demonstration in December, "the incident caused no deaths or injuries," specified Mr. Dujarric adding, "However, these actions are considered as incompatible with the highest standards of conduct from the UN staff [...]

The Mission is in the process of repatriation of the officers and platoon commander for disciplinary issues, a process that is done in consultation with countries contributing and government authorities of Haiti," concluded UN spokesman.
