Haiti - NOTICE : Essay Contest

The U.S. Embassy in Haiti would like to inform the public, particularly the 11th and 12th grade students (17 to 21 years old) that the essay contest "Promoting Youth Leaders in Haiti". The Embassy will soon announce the new dates that have been set.

The U.S. Embassy in Haiti is holding an essay contest (rédaction) for 11th and 12th grade students (Rhéto - Philo) between 17 and 21 years old.

Interested students may choose one theme from the following:

  • Discuss a Haitian leader who has made a significant contribution to Haiti’s development in a key public or private sector or the government.

  • Explain what is civic engagement and why is it important for you to participate in choosing a leader for your community or country.

  • Define the profile of a good electoral candidate and the importance of participating in the electoral process.

Text Format :

The text should be presented with a cover page and a photo ID, your full name, the name of your school and your grade level.

The chosen theme must be written on top of the first page. The text can be written in French, Creole or English using Times New Roman 12, doubled-spaced, and should be no more than 5 pages, including the cover page.

The deadline for the essay is Friday, May 22, 2015 by 3:00 p.m.

All texts must be submitted via e-mail to papculture@state.gov or in hard copy at the reception of the U.S. Embassy located at Tabarre 41, Blvd. 15 Octobre (the entrance across the street from Valerio Canez.)

Prizes will be given to the top three winners by subject.
