The Senate candidate Steven Benoit, who is part of a group of more than 70 candidates enrolled under the banner "Alternative" said Friday that former deputy Garry Guiteau was mandated to discuss with the Ministry of Interior and Territorial Communities (ministère de l'Intérieur et des Collectivites Territoriales MICT) of the funds put at the disposal of candidates of the Alternative platform.

Let us recall that whereas the Alternative platform in favor of peaceful boycott of upcoming elections, 75 candidates under the banner of this platform, have decided against the position of the Executive to establish a national leadership campaign led by Gary Guiteau, the former member of the Organization of People in Struggle (Organisation du Peuple en Lutte OPL). A structure that Victor Benoit, a member of the executive board of the Alternative considered non-existent and worthless in light of the regulations of the Platform.

"We entrusted a mandate to Garry Guiteau, to discuss with the MICT in the way in which we could recover the cash in hand for our campaign, because the persons in charge of the Alternative are against the announced elections" said Mr. Benoit , even if he recognizes that it is the parties who should receive money from the state to campaign for their candidates. He said he also discussed this case with officials of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

Steven Benoit denounces the lack of clear rules regarding state funding of the Haitian election campaign of candidates for deputies and the Senate, who said that the government will pay 3 million gourds to political parties for the campaign of the deputies whatever the number of deputies. He does not understand why a presidential candidate who has spent 500.000 gourds for inscription receives 2 million gourds for his campaign and that this rule does not apply to a parliamentary candidate who has spent 50.000 gourds for its inscription , this latter should logically receive 200.000 gourds in aid for his campaign.
