Haiti - Elections : Candidate Michel Martelly defends Wyclef Jean

During his visit last week in Montreal to promote his candidacy with the Haitian diaspora, Michel Martelly had nothing in common with his stage persona "Sweet Micky", President of compas.

Suit, tie, Michael Martelly, the candidate prepares to officially launch its campaign on October 15 [like all the other candidates], as permitted by the timetable of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

"Sweet Micky" the stage character created by Michel Martelly wanted to provocative, but the politician Martelly is very different, more conservative neo-liberal trend, close to the military, he is very order and law. Near to ordinary people, he said he has been involved for 17 years in social work, and since 2008 with his wife in the "Fondation rose et blanc" to help the poorest of Haiti.

As one speaks to him about Wyclef, it does not hesitate to take his defense "the problem of Wyclef, it is that it did not grow in Haiti [...] but for the remainder, he likes his country as much that me. And they is false to claim, like made Sean Penn, that Wyclef did not do anything for its country. Photos of Wyclef picking up the dead after the earthquake, I saw them. I would never have had this courage"

According to Michel Martelly "Haiti was not destroyed by the earthquake, but by politicians who did nothing all these years. If there were so many dead under the rubble, it is primarily because there has never been standards in construction. Port-au-Prince has always been a city built on sand. Rest before talking about reconstruction, we should talk about decentralization. We should also talk about jobs, police reform and of the changing of ONG. This is not normal that MINUSTAH is installed for life here. That they help us to prepare a changing and that they come on our premises as investors or tourists. Not as managers of our misery!"

Michel Martelly is clearly ready to do battle in this campaign, strongly criticizing the government's inaction and accused the former President Aristide to be responsible for all ills "I met the people around music now I want to gather around the flag of Haiti", he says.
