Haiti - Economy : $25M Pilot Project in wind energy

A delegation of the company XZERES Wind Corp., a global American company specialized in the production of wind power, is exploring investment opportunities in this sector in Haiti.

Thursday, during a meeting, the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) Minister Robert Labrousse, announced that after site visits also involving Haitian businessmen, the commune of : Gonaïves, Gros Morne, Cabaret, Arcahaie, Croix-des-Bouquets and Ganthier were identified as best meeting the requirements of such a project.

Fritz Remé, a representative of Xzerex Wind Corp has confirmed that this project was "[...] already discussed with the energy unit of the Ministry of Public Works and the Maritime Centre and navigation.

To start, the company plans to launch a pilot project amounting 25 million US dollars, in Cabaret/Archaie with a total production of 5 megawatts (the amount currently available in the area is 2 megawatts) "We thought double it in order to electrify not only the two towns and surrounding areas, but also stimulate consumption and face with needs in the future," specified Fritz Remé who wished to stress that "Since the wind is available in its natural state, the electricity will be sold cheaply and from a prepaid card."

Mr. Remé gave assurances that the local workforce will be put to use in this project and that training sessions are planned for this purpose. If all goes well, the project should start in the next 6 months.

Note that the company XZERES Wind Corp. is present among others in Japan, Australia, India, Brazil, Ukraine, Philippines and Mexico...
