Haiti - Migration crisis : Mobile units to normalize the situation of Haitian agricultural workers

Major-General Rubén Paulino Sem Director General of the Dominican immigration, authorized the implementation of a set of mobile units to attend directly to their workplace, foreign farm workers hired by Dominican companies, despite their irregular migratory situation.

He indicated that this measure, that broadens the facilities for persons with irregular immigration status to normalize their situation was decided, to not affect production activities. These operations will start from next weekend in the eastern region and then spread to the Southwest.

These mobile units, are equipped with technicians equipped with computers, cameras for biometric fingerprint, printing systems, forms and documents with the data on the company payroll, which will take charge of regularizing the immigration status of foreigners in need.

Rubén Paulino Sem stressed that each case will be treated individually and according to the situation of the worker identity cards or residence permits to stay in the country as seasonal workers, will be issued.

He also stated he had initiated dialogue with the Dominican Agribusiness Commission leaders to work together in this regulatory effort of foreign workers in the country without creating discomfort in production.
