Haiti - Health : Measures to prevent the importation of communicable diseases

Dr. Georges Dubuche, Director General of the Ministry of Health and Population (MSPP) presented earlier this week, the major projects of the Ministry in order to serve the population nationwide. Construction and rehabilitation of hospitals or health centers, community workers training, modernization of the Haitian health system, are all MSPP intervention to ensure its presence throughout the territory.

"About 240 health centers and hospitals have been built or rehabilitated to date and many more will be opened shortly," said Dr. Georges Dubuche citing as examples : the hospital Simbi of Martissant , that of San-Fil, the hospital Our Lady of Perpetual Secours in Bon Repos and other community hospitals that can provide quality care to the level of the different communes.

In addition, to ensure better data collection for a better performance in decision, the Ministry trained more than 10,000 community health workers, indicated Dr. Dubuche who announced that this number will double in the next five years.

Regarding voluntary return or the next repatriation of our compatriots living in an irregular migratory situation in the Dominican Republic, Dr. Georges Dubuche informed that the Ministry of Public Health, is taking maximum measures with other government entities on the border area, to provide first aid to those in need and also prevent potential communicable diseases whose a migrant may be carrying.
