Haiti - Reconstruction : Inauguration of the Court of Cassation

Tuesday, President Michel Martelly accompanied by MA Ying-Jeou, the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) went to the Champ de mars, for the inauguration of the new and imposing building housing the Court of Cassation, the highest court of the country.

Covering an area of 4,262 m2 this three-storey building will house, judges offices, of the Government Commissioner and its substitutes, and the office of the President of the Court of Cassation. It also includes two courtrooms, a conference room, an infirmary, cafeteria and a parking area that can accommodate 24 cars. This seismic building can withstand an earthquake of magnitude 9 on the Richter scale.

"It is an honor for me to welcome the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), MA Ying-Jeou. The Palace of the Court of the Court of Cassation was built with funding from Taiwan to the tune of $15,3 million. The new building housing the Court of Cassation is the fruit of the Haitian-Taiwanese cooperation, which is fully participating since July 2013, in the reconstruction of the Palace of the Court of Cassation. Today you have signed your name on our soil; the Haitian people will never forget that he has a Taiwanese brother MA Jing-Jeou."

For the President MA Ying-jeou, "the erection of this magnificent building is a step towards the establishment of the rule of law in Haiti," recalling that "the rule of law is the cornerstone of democracy. I am confident in the ability of Haitians to rebuild this beautiful country. "

"Justice raises a Nation. Justice is and remains the backbone of any rule of law," stressed, for his part, Me Jules Cantave, the President of the Court of Cassation who also praised the construction of the modern building and commended the Taiwanese government for this cooperation and thanked the President Martelly for his valuable support to the noble cause of justice.

His Eminence Cardinal Langlois proceeded with the blessing of the building as well as both Heads of States "God bless Their Excellencies, Michel Martelly and MA Jing-Jeou now present on the ground in Haiti" citing Psalm 126, "Unless it is the LORD who builds the house, the builders' work is pointless."

During a joint press conference at the National Palace conducted following a bilateral meeting, the two Heads of State have pledged for the ties of friendship and cooperation between Haiti and the Republic of China remain strong. The President Martelly expressed the gratitude of the Haitian people and their government to the brother people Taiwanese and his Government "I am confident that relations will continue to develop in the best interests of both peoples."
