Haiti - Dominican Republic : Insecurity in Haiti affects entrepreneurs of both countries

Tuesday, Andrés Navarro, the Dominican Foreign Minister and Jose Ramon Fadul, the Minister of the Interior and Police (MIP), held a meeting with Blas Peralta, President of the National Federation of Dominican Transporters (FENATRADO), attended among others by Fernando Fernández, Director of Customs , General Carlos Aguirre Reyes, Director of Special border Security (Cesfront) and Washington González, Vice Minister of the Interior, to try to resolve the difficulties and risks faced by Dominican truck drivers in the transportation of goods in Haiti.

Recall that from Monday, August 3, Dominican truckers indefinitely suspended, the freet transport in Haiti as long as the safety of drivers and goods, will not be guaranteed https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14714-haiti-flash-total-paralysis-of-freight-at-the-border.html

At the meeting, Chancellor Navarro stated that the organizations, which are on the border area assess the risk of Dominican carriers in order to implement appropriate measures, in cooperation with the Haitian government to normalize the freet service.

Similarly, he explained that insecurity in the Dominican goods transport to Haiti was a situation that affected economically entrepreneurs of both countries and urged the Haitian government to take measures to ensure the physical safety of drivers and the safety of the goods en route to their final destination. He said his ministry via the Dominican Embassy in Haiti will continue the dialogue with the Haitian authorities

Note that for several months now, the Fenetrado ruled in favor of the construction of secure facilities on the border that would allow Dominicans carriers to unload their goods without having to enter Haiti, goods which would then be assumed by Haitian carriers. However, it seems that this binational project that would generate jobs for Haiti, faces several problems on the Haitian side, whose the lack of political will (or priorities, election period) lack of financial resources and logistics.
