Haiti - News : Electoral Zapping...

3% turnout, according to Laurent Lamothe

The former Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe described as a "Masquerade" the election day on Sunday, August 9 and denounced the lack of participation in elections, which acording to him was only 3% of the electorate.

"With a participation rate of 3%, 97% of the masses understood the masquerade and remained at home. Haiti deserves better," citing Alexis Michel Justin Lhérisson "In this country (in Haiti), the impossible is possible and the impossible possible. Remember well that and you will be surprised about anything, or rather, you will be surprised that we can still be surprised by something."

Recall that the candidacy of Laurent Lamothe for president had been rejected, following a decision by the National Office of Electoral Litigation (BCEN), at that time he had declared "Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) list of candidates who are authorized to run for presidential elections [...] clearly shows that the CEP is transforming the 2015 elections into an unfair selection based [...] I vigorously denounce this plot for exclusion [...] Things have to change in spite of this plot. Injustice must stop." https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14188-haiti-politic-elections-2015-are-a-selection-operation-dixit-laurent-lamothe.html

Without endorse this estimate of 3% of participation, one may wonder, what would be the legitimacy of the elected in these elections, if the turnout was less than 10%...

Sadrac Dieudonné in favor of the annulment of the elections of August 9

Sadrac Dieudonné, Senate candidate for the department of Artibonite under the banner of "Christian Movement for a New Haiti" (MOCHRENHA), which ruled AGAINST the cancellation of the poll of 9 August, contradicted his party by ruling FOR publicly the cancellation of the poll of 9 August "I thank all the voters who supported candidates of MOCHRENHA. The elections of 9 August are a disaster. At 80%, the Provisional Electoral Council is responsible. This is due to amateurism, incompetence and a well calculated choice of the CEP [...] here were no elections in several communes of the department, including Marchand-Dessalines, Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite, Ennery , Gros-Morne, Desdunes, Saint-Marc and Grande-Saline [...] We are in the presence of a CEP that has not mastered the electoral process and has demonstrated bias. That is why we believe, it would be much wiser to postpone the publication of results and to cancel these fraudulent elections."

Arnel Bélizaire says lead but remains cautious...

One week after the holding of the first round of parliamentary elections, former deputy Arnel Bélizaire Senate candidate for the West Department indicated that on 55% of the collected minutes, he came first but he said careful because the remaining 45% of the minutes confirm or dismiss the current trends. He states that in all cases, he will not challenge the results that will be published by the Provisional Electoral Council...
