Haiti - Security : Death of Brazilian Force Commander of the Minustah

The United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) announces with deep sadness the sudden passing of Lieutenant General José Luiz Jaborandy Jr., Military Force Commander of MINUSTAH in the evening of Sunday, August 30, 2015, following a heart attack while traveling on a plane from Miami to Brazil.

Sandra Honoré, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti, considered the Lt. Gen. Jaborandy as a Commander respectful admirable and an example model of an army officer. "Since taking office, March 15, 2014, Lieutenant General Jaborandy Jr. has worked to strengthen security in Haiti. He will be greatly missed by all who worked with him tirelessly and selflessly to the stability of Haiti."

"The thoughts of Sandra Honoré accompany his widow, Mrs. Liliane Maria Henriques Jaborandy and his family and all the military component of MINUSTAH in this time of great loss."

Condolence of Ban Ki-moon UN Secretary General :

"The Secretary-General learned with great sadness of the sudden passing of Lieutenant General Jose Luiz Jaborandy, Jr. [...] The Secretary-General is grateful for General Jaborandy's leadership and dedication to the cause of peace. He offers his heartfelt condolences to his family and the Government of Brazil for this tragic loss."

Condolences of the US Ambassador to Haiti Pamela White :

"I received with profound sadness the news of the sudden passing of Lieutenant General Jose Luiz Jaborandy, Jr. [...] He was an immensely important and effective supporter of the international community's efforts to bring stability and development to Haiti.
