Haiti - Health : Towards a health insurance partnership between TCI and Haiti...

Monday at the initiative of Margarette Lemaire, the Consul of Haiti to the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, Minister of Public Health received a delegation of TCI of the National Health Insurance Board (NHIP) on a mission to Haiti from September 6 to 10, in order to extend a health insurance program and to discuss the implementation process of a potential partnership agreement.

Note that the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands, having no very large health facilities, the patients requiring health care, such as surgery, have to go get treatment in foreign countries. That is why the Government of TCI is exploring new public-private partnerships to facilitate in particular Haitian residing in the TCI to seek treatment in Haiti, rather than the Bahamas or the US given the language barrier.

Note that between 8,000 and 10,000 Haitians living in the Turks and Caicos Islands, benefit from the insurance of the NHIP. In case the two governments would come to an agreement (in particular on the standardization of rates), our compatriots, as foreigners insured of TCI could then come for treatment in Haiti.

During their stay, the delegation of TCI will take the opportunity to visit some hospitals in Haiti.
