Haiti - Education : The Ministry of Education takes action and closes schools

Thursday, as part of the internal control processes to improve the efficiency of the Universal Schooling Program Free and Compulsory (PSUGO), following a first inspection visit by senior officials from the Ministry of

National education in 3 educational institutions : Collège René Descartes (Delmas 89), École Sainte Marguerite and Collège Netilia, involved in the implementation of PSUGO and after observation of non-compliance with academic standards, administrative and of educational infrastructure, the following measures were adopted :

The exclusion of the École Sainte Marguerite and of collège Netilia from PSUGO, as well as the immediate closure of such institutions to every school activity. Children in these institutions, supported and oriented in nearby public schools, under the coordination of the Departmental Direction of the West.

Those responsible of the College René Descartes, must produce within three days the pedagogical and administrative documents required in Articles 12 and 13 of the PSUGO contract linking it with the Ministry and proceed to the immediate relocation of the College, whose premises in the current state, represent a major threat to the lives of students.
