The electoral process was designed to exclude women...

The Solidarite Fanm Ayisyèn (SOFA) notes with bitterness that "the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has undermined all the efforts of women's organizations to ensure a representation of at least 30% women in parliament. While, following the women's organizations mobilizations, many of the latter had expressed their willingness to be a candidate, only 23 women have finally managed to register on 232 candidates in the Senate and 129 women out of 1,621 candidates for deputies."

"[...] These disappointing figures obviously can be explained by the socio-cultural status of women, the patriarchal mode of operation of political parties and education-related problems but also to the lack of a true civic education campaign of CEP to encourage women to stand as candidates in legislative," explains the feminist organization. All suggesting SOFA says, "that the electoral process was designed to exclude a category of the population, especially women, not only as candidates but also as voters."

The SOFA also fears that Haitian society is equipped with a parliament composed mainly of men, whose part has a loose morals, according to data provided by human rights organizations.

New postponement of the publication of the results of the first round

Néhémie Joseph, Electoral Adviser to the CEP, said that the final results of the first round of legislative elections will be announced before the end of September... He explained that many cases of dispute addressed by the National Electoral Office (BCEN) justify the delay in the publication of results. About fifty recourse to West level will be heard during the hearings Thursday and Friday by the judges of the BCEN of three chambers of BCEN, the deliberations will be held during the weekend and then will be forwarded to electoral advisers for verification of the harmonization with the results.

The Coalition of candidates to local government opposes to the postponement of the elections

The Coalition of candidates to local governments is categorically opposed to any decision to postpone to December the municipal and local elections. The coalition members demand the respect of the original date, ie October 25, soliciting the support of leaders of political parties who must meet this Friday, the Provisional Electoral Council.
