Haiti - Jacmel : Explosive situation at the Lycée Pinchinat (Exclusive)

Thursday morning, school activities at the Lycee Pinchinat were totally paralyzed. Following the torrential rains that fell on the city of Jacmel, on Wednesday evening, used tents used as classrooms, [since March], have been grounded, partially destroyed, invaded by water and mud.

Face to this catastrophic situation, Ernst Cadet, director of the School of Lycée Pinchinat of Jacmel was forced to suspend school activities until November 8, "We made steps near the departmental direction of the education of South-east like at different ONG, but no concrete answers have been provided so far" he said. The director of the school denouncing a lack of will by the State which has taken all this time, without bringing a solution. To remedy this situation, Ernst Cadet said that "if this problem is not resolved, I will give my resignation in a short time."

Questioned by HaïtiLibre on the lycée Pinchinat courses, many students complain of the difficulties they face. They describe as the political situation in which the School is now, "almost all classes are filled as an egg, not respecting any educational standard, the politicians submit the lists of names to school officials, without taking account of the space and insufficiency of furniture" they lamented.

Pupils, for now, have chosen the path of dialogue as a first step, they formed an interclass committee in order to meet the education officials in Jacmel and the representatives of different ONG, to find a solution that allows students to receive the bread of instruction. However, students warn that if these efforts fail, they will look to invest the city streets to force the authorities to assume their responsibilities in this matter.

Since the beginning of classes in October, the Lycée Pinchinat continues to face serious problems, which prevents it from operating normally, including a lack of space. In this regard, last week, students in 3rd grade and second, competed for occupancy of a tent in better condition than others. This incident has disrupted the school day, students threw stones without, thankfully victim.

"The authorities of the country say that education is the foundation of any development," said one student, "at Jacmel the issue of education is politicized, the vehicles of the departemantal office of education, covered with posters, are delivered to party candidates close to the government in place within the framework of the electoral campaign in the Southeast."

The education officials turn a deaf ear to the cries of alarm initiated by students, preferring to ignore the record Pinchinat to benefit the campaign. Contemptuous and irresponsible attitude which could ignite the fuse of a youth revolt, source of social disorder.
