Haiti - Environment COP21 : An action plan of over 25 billion dollars for Haiti !

Haiti submitted its national contribution to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in preparation for COP 21, to be held in Paris from 30 November to 11 December 2015. This contribution has benefited among others, of the support from France through the Embassy of France in Haiti, the French Development Agency (AFD) and Expertise France.

Although Haiti is one of the lowest emitters of greenhouse gases, its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) provides a 5% reduction (unconditional) to 31% (26% conditional) in emissions by 2030.

Arising from a consensus between governments, civil society and private sector, the contribution of Haiti is in line with the Strategic Plan of Development of Haiti (PSDH), of PlanNational Adaptation Action (PANA) and the Second National Communication on Climate Change. 186 national contributions, covering over 85% of global emissions of greenhouse gases have so far been filed.

Dominique Pierre, the new Minister of the Environment points out that "the commitments made in the INDC represent a need for overall financing of 25,387 billion US [mitigation : 8.773 billion and adaptation : 16.614 billion]. Haiti therefore expects a real joint efforts of the international community to continue supporting the fight against climate change under the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities enshrined in the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development."
