Haiti - Epidemic : Permanent alert on the Dominican border

Vice Admiral Sigfrido Wall Perez, director general of Migration said on Sunday that until the epidemic of cholera, affecting Haiti, down to the minimum or disappears, there will be a permanent alert at the Dominican-Haiti border.

The official recalled that there are four border crossings between the two countries : Dajabón, Elías Pineapple, Jimaní and Silex, under supervision of members of the Corps of Border Security Specialist (Cesfront) responsible for control and security. These units have received a reinforcement of the Armed Forces who have tripled their numbers at the border.

He indicated that special measures were adopted to prevent the spread of cholera in Dominican territory, within the health system put in place along the border ordered by President Leonel Fernández. This system involves officials from the Ministry of Public Health, the Armed Forces and Cesfront working closely together to prevent the cholera epidemic in Haiti is spreading to the Dominican Republic and that Haitians illegally entering unauthorized areas. Sigfrido Wall Perez said that since the introduction of this device, migration between Haiti and the Dominican territory, had fallen significantly.
